“We bill these as not just a concert but as a community event. "That was our biggest fear," said Mike Albaugh, the Philadelphia Orchestra's director of collaborative learning. "When I first suggested this idea, we wondered, 'Well, what's it going to sound like?' So we took a walk through and David, our sound guy, was like, 'I think we can make it work.' Basically, I haven't slept since that day, but it sure sounds great.”

Sometimes a dream begins with a teach who believes and someone who pushes you to the next plateau.

For students at Jazz at Lincoln Center Summer Jazz Academy, Wynton Marsalis is the greatest act of optimism.

"We are extremely excited to bring Jazz at Lincoln Center’s award-winning WeBop program to the Harlem School of the Arts,” said Dr. Michael Albaugh, Director of Education Operations at Jazz at Lincoln Center. “Harlem School of the Arts is a tremendous organization with a shared cultural belief of the importance of arts and education for the community.”

"We’re incredibly excited to celebrate our 3rd Annual Summer Jazz Academy at Bard College,” said Dr. Michael Albaugh, Summer Jazz Academy Program Director and Director of Operations, Education, at Jazz at Lincoln Center. “This year, we welcome 44 amazingly talented high school students who will spend two weeks in this jazz-centric environment working with the most dedicated and committed faculty anywhere. Through improvisation we will teach personal confidence, through swing we will teach good manners and team work, through the blues we will encourage emotional depth and determined optimism."

He should know: he plays Guitar Hero with his niece and is also a real rock guitarist.”

Hudson Lanier plays the guitar. Laura McIntyre’s instrument is the bassoon. Together, as Duo Brucoco, they are expanding the repertoire of two instruments that are seldom paired but make what has been described as “a perfect sonic marriage.”
